Sit-ups, crunches, twists, leg drops, roman chair, bicycle, jack knife, side bend…….any chance you end your workout with 100’s of these, or even worse, do you start your workout with these? The discussion of ab work comes up everyday at my studio. My golfers ask all the time to do extra ab work because they want a washboard stomach. Consequently, I spend a lot of time doing education with them on exactly why doing excessive sit-ups will not get them the six-pack they dream of and in reality, may cause more damage to their golf game in the long run. Here is a great article from Mike Boyle that explains the truth about abs!
Did you know there are actually some other headlines in the golf world right now other than the latest player to be dq’d due to a viewer email and who Dustin Johnson is dating? Let’s take a time out from the golfing gossip and talk about how players such as Tom Kite are taking time our of their schedules to make a big impact. Here is an amazing article courtesy of my good friend and bridesmaid Heather Deranek! She had the chance to sit down with Tom Kite and talk about the time he spent at the Hualalai Academy this past week speaking with students about the importance of vision screening and how it has played a roll in his life. Enjoy!
When was the last time you sat down and watched an LPGA tournament on television? When was the last time you even checked the scores? Can you name over 10 female professional golfers (other than Michelle Wie!) that are currently competing? If your answers were never, never and I have no clue, we have some work to do! Unfortunately, you’re not alone though. There is a huge percentage of golf fans who would answer those questions the same way. When it comes to professional golf these days, the money, the viewership and the fans are residing with the PGA Tour. This is why I am so excited to introduce to all of you an amazing organization that I am very proud to be partnering up with…….The Golfbelles! Check out their website, as well as their facebook page and learn how they are working to build a golf sisterhood!!
Happy New Year Everyone! The start of a brand new year is always exciting, it is the perfect time to go through and do a personal check list as well as set some new goals for the next 12 months. Here’s a little list of questions I have been asking myself the past few days about my golf game in 2011……
Did I achieve my goals from 2010? is yes…how? if no….why?
Is there one huge goal I would like to go after in 2011?
What do I need to do to accomplish this?
Are there other goals that need to be met along the way to the big one?
What is the state of my body?
How will I fit my goals into my work schedule?
Can I work towards my goal, and still enjoy the game at the same time?
How will I make this fun?!
I will post my answers to these soon, and a few from my golfers as well. Because I work with such a wide variety of players, planning out their year is fun because there is so much diversity in the goals. One player may want to prep for q-school, another will want to play a round of golf for the first time in 2 years injury free. Either way, mapping out the progress and setting some milestones along the way helps guide their workouts and problem solve if there is a bump in the road. Here’s to an amazing year of golf….(this is where I cue the picture above :)
Meet the man who saved me from giving golf up completely last year, and who also works with all of my clients on improving their golf performance, Dr. Harry Sese! I would like to welcome him on to The Fitness Caddie Blog, he’ll be on here answering any medical and golf performance questions you have.
We would also like to extend our congratulations to him on being chosen as a speaker at the 2010 World Golf Fitness Summit in Orlando, FL November 11-13. Check out the amazing list of presenters….you’ll see a familiar face towards the bottom. Congrats Dr. Sese!!
I love The Office. In fact, I have probably watched seasons 1-5 from start to finish at least 10 times in the past 6 months (this is what happens when you don’t have cable!). So here is your friendly reminder for the day to take a break from slouching over the computer and hop down, give me 20!……or try for 25 and 1 girl push-up, if Michael Scott can do it so can you!
You have to appreciate the focus and determination of this picture! I’m of course referring to the guy in the background watching Martin Kaymer get ready to tee off who is able to multi-task and keep his eyes on the golfing action while his girlfriend tries to kiss him! If that’s not dedication to the sport, I don’t know what is!
